All About Christmas
When do you put your Christmas decorations up?
We always aim to put up our decorations on the first weekend in December. If we’re really busy that weekend I might consider the weekend before but really I like to wait for December.
What is your favourite Christmas song and why?
I love “Fairytale of New York” by the Pogues, it’s just a bit different to all the other Christmas songs which I’ve usually had enough of by the second week of December!
If you do any Christmas arts and craft what are they?
I’m really not a crafter but every year the kids and I make some kind of tree decorations for them to give as gifts to teachers and family. I like process art so it often involves melting stuff! One year we made some from melted crayons in moulds and last year we melted beads inside Christmas cookie cutters.
Do you have the Elf on the Shelf come to visit?
No, I actually find the whole lying to kids about Father Christmas thing quite difficult so certainly wouldn’t add to it with a visiting elf.
What is your favourite thing to bake for Christmas? Do you have any Christmas baking traditions?
I don’t really like dried fruit so I steer away from the traditional Christmas baked goods. We like to make cranberry, macadamia and white chocolate cookies to give to Christmas visitors. We also make iced biscuits in Christmas shapes which the kids love decorating.
Do you have a Christmas Eve Box for your kids? If so what is included?
Yes! Christmas Eve is one of my favourite bits of Christmas. When I was a child it was always the day the Christmas chocolates came out so that may be something to do with it! I also worked in retail for a long time and always loved the atmosphere on Christmas Eve. Our Christmas Eve box is delivered by us, (not the elves as some people’s are) and it’s a quite a simple one. I include new PJs or onsies, a Christmas DVD, popcorn, reindeer food (glitter free for the sake of the wildlife) hot chocolate and marshmallows plus the kid’s Christmas mugs, and the Christmas story we always read on Christmas Eve.
Do you go to either midnight mass or a Christingle church service?
I’ve never been to Church at Christmas but I always wanted to as a child. If my children are interested when they are a bit older then maybe we will.
What time will you get up on Christmas morning?
We’ll be up at 6.20 which is the time the kids get up everyday but we’re normally allowed to stay in bed a bit longer, no chance of that on Christmas Day!
Who will you be spending Christmas Day with? Are you doing the cooking?
I will have my husband, my children, my parents in law and my best friend with her little boy plus my brother and sister in law usually pop in during the morning.
If money was no object what would you be asking Santa for this Christmas?
A MacBook, my laptop is so slow now it’ll be a miracle if it makes it to Christmas 2019 without me throwing it out of a window!
How do you celebrate New Years Eve?
Honestly, I don’t! I’m always in bed before midnight. I like the idea of a new year being a fresh start and I always write down goals for the year but I love my sleep too much to stay up!
