We have a paid subscription to Twinkl as it is our favourite go to for online homeschool resources. But did you know they also have a lot of FREE education resources?
Today we are reviewing their latest addition to the free education resources which is in partnership with the Tate Gallery.
We have been studying all about George Stubbs. If I am honest, I had never heard of George Stubbs so this was definitely a topic we have worked on together. I love art and we have lots of paintings around the house, but all are contemporary artists. Freddie also has a love of art, and we have a number of art books in our office. I often find him looking through the Banksy books we have just for fun.
Tate Gallery – Twinkl Free Resources
The Tate Gallery have partnered with Twinkl to create some fantastic free activities for KS1 and KS2. The artists are George Stubbs, Gwen John and John Millais.
A lot of the Twinkl fact files come in three different ability levels, marked by stars at the bottom of the worksheet. We always opt for the 3 stars as we generally work with Twinkl in greater depth.
The George Stubbs Activity file in KS2 includes a KWL grid: What I know, What I want to know, What I have learnt. A research map, a comparison activity sheet and my powerful questions.
There is a lot to do on this artist and we spent about 2 hours today researching all about George Stubbs. Freddie decided what in particular he wanted to know about him and we asked Google! So the first question was, how much is his art work sold for. £22.4 million was the record to date.
A lot of the worksheets from Twinkl that Freddie uses he does by himself, but if we are doing a topic we will go into the kitchen and discover new things together. Its a great way for him to bounce ideas around and he is always excited to tell me all about the new facts he has found out.
If you also homeschool check out over 80 homeschooling UK websites that you can use.
With this particular topic he used the IPAD to research in greater depth. There was a fact file about him included in this free resource which tells you all about him and what he is famous for.
Not only did we enjoy researching all about George Stubbs we ended this lesson with a little drawing.
We did giggle a lot while Freddie was drawing this! He used a tutorial he found online for how to draw a horse and I have to say I think it looks brilliant! But we did laugh a lot!
Why do we love Twinkl?
Twinkl was the very first online homeschool educational resources we used. The reason we loved it to start with was mainly as it looked similar to the work Freddie had been doing at school. Now of course I didn’t deregister Freddie from school to replicate it at home. However, it certainly helped with the familiarity of the work.
As you have hopefully seen Twinkl offer a number of amazing free resources. But as we homeschool we wanted access to all of their 500,000+ resources. With Twinkl membership starting from as little £4.49 per month in my opinion it is money well spent.
There are worksheets, test papers, colouring in sheets, topic work, it really is great.
Do you use Twinkl? If so do you have the membership or do you use the free resources? Let me know in the comments below.
